    Racism is something that is learned. People aren’t born with racist ideas or attitudes. It doesn’t always come from a malicious place. Ignorance can play a big role in racial attitudes. But sometimes harm is intended.

    In this section we examine the psychology behind racism, how it evolves, and talk about some flashpoints of racism, including the wearing of hijabs and use of the N-word.

    Systemic Racism

    Systemic Racism includes the policies and practices entrenched in established institutions, which result in the exclusion or promotion of designated groups. It differs from overt discrimination in that no individual intent is necessary.

    In this section, we examine the difference between cultural appropriation and appreciation by sharing many examples, including hairstyles, Halloween costumes, Blackface, sports team jerseys and names, and perhaps the most controversial, trying to appear or claiming to be racialized when you’re white.
