Abstract

This research aimed to outline the factors contributing to the increased vulnerability of international students in relation to sexual violence on post-secondary campuses. The research used a qualitative methodology, producing findings from in-depth interviews with five participants who are service providers and professionals working with survivors of sexual violence, including international students. The research identified key themes, such as defining international students, as well as the definition and various forms of sexual violence. Other themes that emerged from the findings were factors that make international students more susceptible, barriers to reporting, programs, services, and resources for international student survivors, and ways of improving post-secondary institutions' response to sexual violence. Findings from the research also outlined the challenges international students face in navigating a new life and environment when they relocate to a different country for educational purposes. The research provides insights into the factors that make international students vulnerable to sexual violence. It makes recommendations to post-secondary institutions and policymakers on how to improve policies, support programs, and services that address these challenges. It also stresses the importance of raising awareness to reduce the risk of victimization of international students to sexual violence.
