Abstract

This research explores the factors influencing international students' utilization of mental health services in Canadian post-secondary institutions. The study aims to identify barriers and challenges that hinder access to mental health resources. Using a quantitative methodology, data were collected from 26 international students through an online survey. Key findings reveal significant challenges, with 54% of respondents never visiting their institutions' health center and 81% facing difficulties with healthcare expenses. Barriers identified include lack of awareness , difficulty navigating healthcare services, and cultural reluctance to seek help. Only 50% of participants felt they could easily access health services, and just 12% felt extremely comfortable accessing Canadian health services. The study highlights the need for culturally competent, accessible, and affordable mental health services in post-secondary institutions to better support international students.
