Hanifa Poya was born in Iran and moved to Afghanistan with her family when she was 14. After completing her bachelor’s degree in social science at Kabul University, she set up an organization supporting women and children, which she worked with for several years.
She has extensive experience in fitness and training management, and she was the head of the Afghani Women’s Fitness and Bodybuilding Federation for five years. Hanifa is also a talented artist who works with different art mediums. In addition to painting and graffiti, she has created a felt book about her life and two large dolls, modelled after herself and her husband. The dolls, dressed in wedding and traditional clothing, traveled with Hanifa to several historical places in Afghanistan, and accompanied her all the way to Canada just a few days after the Taliban took control of Afghanistan.
