Earlier this year, we invited you to nominate your Mission Zero Hero—someone whose dedication to making a positive environmental impact truly inspires you. These individuals lead by example, demonstrating through their actions how we can all contribute to a more sustainable future. Meet David - an Electrical Technologist who is involved in the development of Sheridan’s renewable energy program. He is also received a research grant for a proposal for a Smart and Green Irrigation Monitoring System.

If you've attended a Mission Zero event at Sheridan, you've likely met Wai Chu. She has taught many in our community the importance of waste sorting and shared simple ways they can be more sustainable. Her passion and dedication continue to inspire others.

Georg Feil, a professor @SheridanFAST has been volunteering at the Repair Cafe since the program launched in 2014. With an engineering background & 40 years of do-it-yourself fixing experiences, Georg has brought many broken items back to life. Thank you for being a Mission Zero Hero.

Lorina Harvey was part of a small but dedicated team of volunteers who in 2020 tended the plots of our Community Gardens, donating the harvested vegetables to those in need.

Nominated as a Mission Zero Hero for his bike riding advocacy, Nathan encourages others to ride by setting the example. He commutes to campus by bike, regardless of the weather and is always ready to share his learning with others. He also volunteers at the Sheridan Bike hub.

As a member of our Green Team, Lydia Novak is committed to sustainability at Sheridan & around the world. Lydia participated in an ocean clean-up initiative in Malaysia, where she scuba-dived to remove debris entangled in the reef. Her dedication to a better world makes her a Mission Zero Hero.

Meet Mission Zero Hero & professor, Dr. Noel Quinn. Noel developed a sustainability course at Sheridan to build environmental awareness among students. The course focuses on environmental protection, energy conservation & the protection of wildlife.

Vicki's sustainability work has resulted in 4 Mission Zero Hero nominations and two bicycle hubs at HMC and Davis. Her commitment to greening our commute is followed up with actions - Vicki bikes everywhere! She encourages us all to walk the talk.

Sara volunteers her time at the Mission Zero Bike Hub at HMC, engaging with other students about the hub and what it offers. She made the switch from single-use plastic to a reusable bottle, which is just one way she leads by example.

Varoon earned his nomination by teaming up with fellow Mission Zero Hero nominee Vicki Tran to bike from Davis Campus to HMC. Every trip counts towards reducing the production of greenhouse gasses!

When the Sheridan bike hub started offering free rentals, Volodymyr was the first person in line. That summer, he rode almost 500km, and he has continued to make riding a part of his daily activities.

Professor Stan Weisbeker is a renewable energy tinkerer. With solar panels on his home, this Mission Zero Hero squeezes every joule out of a sunny day. When his Intro to Renewable Energy course switched to online delivery, he built a renewable energy lab to provide an immersive experience.
