Abstract

This research evaluated the awareness of Universal Design for Learning (UDL) among students in Ontario colleges and its perceived impact on their educational experience. A survey employing quantitative methods was conducted, yielding 22 valid responses. Findings revealed that most respondents were unfamiliar with UDL principles. However, students identified key elements they preferred to see implemented in their classes, including increased flexibility in accessing course materials, diverse assessment options, and personalized feedback from instructors. Students who recognized UDL practices reported benefits such as improved academic success, better grades, and enhanced understanding of course materials. The study also highlighted variability in UDL awareness and implementation across colleges. Respondents expressed a preference for adaptable teaching methods and accessible learning resources, emphasizing UDL’s relevance in fostering inclusive education. This research offers a unique perspective on UDL implementation in Ontario colleges, emphasizing the need for enhanced teacher training and the adoption of more flexible teaching practices to better meet students' needs.
