Design Brief

  • Developing safe, wide and accessible sidewalks / pedestrian paths to encourage walking.
  • Establishing cycling lanes separated from rail and industrial zones (also act a buffer space between residential and industrial spaces).
  • Integrating / utilizing the wide green stretch as a green space and parks throughout the neighbourhood for recreational activities.
  • Engage residents in the planning process to ensure the design meets community needs and preferences.

By integrating these conditions into the urban design process, we can create a residential neighbourhood that not only reduces the risk of type 2 & prediabetes but also enhances overall health and quality of lifestyle of the residents.

Purpose

Explore possible built form interventions to improve community health including access to green space, air quality, access to healthy food, walkability in the west, north, northeastern and central areas of Mississauga.
