Design Brief

Improving Health Outcomes in southwest of Jolliffe Ave & Dooley Drive

The neighbourhood in Mississauga has a challenge with a high prevalence of T2D / several environmental risk factors and inadequate green spaces, insufficient walkability and a lack of recreational facilities. The considerations to address the environmental risk factors includes improving green spaces such as park development and tree planting initiatives, enhancing walkability with proper sidewalks, add walking / jogging trails, install street furniture, open fitness centres, beautification by adding water bodies, constructing community centers, sports facilities to encourage exercise for all age groups. All these factors can help to lead to sustainable improvements in public health outcomes.

Purpose

Explore possible built form interventions to improve community health including access to green space, air quality, access to healthy food, walkability in the west, north, northeastern and central areas of Mississauga.
