Description
This StoryMap project offers viewers an examination of the controversy behind the name of Russell, Ontario. Firstly, the StoryMap examines the unethical actions of Peter Russell, the person that the town is named after. The StoryMap then applies that information in the context of modern day Russell and the push to rededicate the town’s name, while also examining various perspectives that exist in the discussion. Then, the StoryMap examines the deeper questions and issues that arise from the discussion, specifically involving systemic racism and how members of the community in Russell are taking steps to address these issues. Lastly, the StoryMap concludes by extracting and summarizing the most important lessons learned from the discussion in a broader context.
