Abstract

This digital history project displays and discusses the many struggles of immigrants from around the world--more specifically from Egypt, Hungary, and the Philippines--as they find ways to maintain their cultural identity in a foreign environment. Through the real and authentic stories of Monica Shafik, Erika Melek, Eriza and Gregorio Pepino, Marianne Diaz, Gaby Niloff, and Pal Orosz, we investigate said struggles. These include gender inequality, loss of native language, the financial burdens of taking care of two families, and a strained political environment. We look into what made these immigrants the people who they are today; people with stories of success driven by their circumstances surrounding them.
